Capitol Building, General Assembly Building, Patrick Henry Building, and the Virginia Executive Mansion
The Capitol and the General Assembly Buildings (GAB) are Legislative Office Buildings and are subject to the following security requirements:
The general public will be required to submit to a scan by a metal detector, either by a walk-through machine or by a hand-held wand.
Any person(s) who refuses to be scanned will be denied access to the building unless he/she presents medical documentation which prohibits such screening. However, he/she may be required to submit to a hand wand search.
All members of the general public will be required to submit all packages to an X-ray scan and/or a visual inspection. Any refusals of such inspections will result in denied entry for that package.
Concealed weapon permit holders with proper credentials are allowed to carry weapons into the Capitol and the GAB. There will be no open carrying of weapons allowed in the Capitol or GAB except for law enforcement officers with proper credentials.
The Patrick Henry Building (PHB) is an Executive Office Building and is subject to the following security requirements:
The general public is required to show valid photo identification (I.D.) in order to be allowed access to the PHB. The following photo I.D’s are accepted: government issued driver’s license, Department of Motor Vehicle identification card, U.S. pass-ports, military I.D., law enforcement photo I.D., and federal, state, and local employee’s work I.D.
Children and/or school groups who demonstrate a need to visit the PHB are allowed to access the building without a photo I.D. as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid photo I.D. Children and school groups must go through scanning procedures.
The general public should be directed to the Darden Garden entrance for access into the PHB. The general public will be required to submit to a scan by a metal detector, either by walk-through magnetometer or by a hand-held wand.
Any person(s) who refuse to be scanned will be denied access to the building unless he/she present medical documentation which prohibits such screening. However, he/she may be required to submit to a hand wand search.
All members of the general public will be required to submit all packages to an X-ray scan and/or a visual inspection. Any refusals of such inspections will result in denied entry for that package.
Concealed weapon permit holders with proper credentials are allowed to carry weapons into the PHB. There will be no open carrying of weapons allowed in the PHB except for law enforcement officers with proper credentials.
